COSHH assessments: smart search and SDS upload

Your COSHH library lives at COSHH in the sidebar. Two tabs: Your library (substances you've added or uploaded) and the Built-in catalogue (searchable, with fuzzy matching that copes with typos, brand names and trade nicknames — "thinners", "PVA", "fibre cement").
Find a substance
Open COSHH from the sidebar and switch to the Built-in catalogue tab.
Search for the substance — brand names and nicknames work.
Results are labelled by where they come from: Your library, Reviewed, or Built-in.
No match? Click Add manually or upload the SDS (next section).
Upload a Safety Data Sheet
Click Upload SDS and drop the manufacturer's PDF (max 10MB).
Wait a moment while it reads the PDF and extracts the safety data.
Review the extracted fields — each carries a High / Medium / Low confidence badge.
Product name, manufacturer, health effects, exposure routes, PPE, workplace exposure limits, first aid, handling and storage, fire measures, disposal, and hazard/precautionary statements.
Click Add to my COSHH library to save it for reuse.
Generate the project's COSHH document
From your project, generate the COSHH document: it collects the substances assessed on this project, records who prepared and approved it, and produces the PDF. Substances marked Not yet assessed need their assessment completed first — open the substance in your COSHH library (sidebar → COSHH) and fill in its safety detail.
Substances on the project also surface in the RAMS wizard as its COSHH step, so the paperwork stays consistent.
Frequently asked questions
I can't find a substance in the catalogue — what now?
Upload the manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet: click Upload SDS, drop the PDF, and the AI extracts hazard statements, PPE, first aid, exposure limits and disposal information. Review each field (they're confidence-badged), then click Add to my COSHH library.
Do COSHH records carry across projects?
Yes — your COSHH library is account-wide. Assess a substance once and reuse it on every project. Substances also appear in the RAMS wizard's COSHH step.
Which plan includes COSHH?
COSHH is included on Pro (£39/mo) and above. Starter can see the surface but needs an upgrade to use it.
Do workers sign COSHH assessments?
No — workers can read COSHH assessments in their portal, view-only. Sign-off is collected on inductions, toolbox talks, emergency plans and (optionally) RAMS.
