Digital site inductions in minutes, not hours

Looking for a site induction template? Stop chasing paper sign-off sheets. The Site Book runs digital site inductions for builders on any device — workers sign off on their phone, records are stored automatically, and you can pull up proof for an HSE inspection in seconds. The easiest construction site induction software for UK builders.

How it works

Four steps. No printing. No chasing paper sign-off sheets around site.

1

Create your induction

Set up what your induction covers — site rules, hazards, emergency procedures, PPE requirements, welfare facilities. Tailor it to your specific site, not a generic template.

2

Send it to workers

Share a link or QR code. Workers read through the induction on their own phone or tablet before arriving on site. No printing, no paperwork.

3

Digital sign-off

Each worker signs off digitally — name, signature, and confirmation they've understood everything. The record is stored automatically in the cloud.

4

Instant proof

Pull up induction records in seconds for HSE inspections, client audits, or principal contractor requests. Every record is timestamped and signed.

What's included in every site induction

  • Refresher alerts — flag workers overdue for a refresher induction
  • Pre-filled from your project — site address, emergency contacts, hazards pulled in automatically
  • PDF export — download induction records for your files or to share

Common questions about site inductions

Is a site induction a legal requirement?

Yes. CDM 2015 Regulation 13 requires the principal contractor to provide each worker with suitable site-specific information and instructions before they start work. The HSE's Approved Code of Practice (ACOP L153) explicitly states this should be done through site inductions. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 also require employers to provide information, instruction, and training. In practice, a site induction is the standard way to meet these obligations.

What should a site induction cover?

A site induction should cover site rules and access, welfare facilities, emergency procedures and assembly points, site-specific hazards, PPE requirements, reporting procedures for hazards and incidents, and any permit-to-work systems. The content should be specific to your site — not a generic safety lecture.

How long should a site induction take?

Most construction site inductions take 15 to 45 minutes depending on the size and complexity of the project. For a domestic extension, 15-20 minutes covering the essentials is usually sufficient. For a large commercial site with significant hazards, 30-45 minutes including a site walk-around is more appropriate.

Do visitors need a site induction?

Yes, but a shorter version. Anyone entering a construction site — clients, architects, building control officers, delivery drivers — needs to know the key hazards, PPE requirements, areas they must not enter, and emergency procedures. A visitor induction typically takes about 5 minutes.

Can I do site inductions digitally?

Yes. Digital site inductions are increasingly common and accepted by the HSE. The worker reads through the induction content on a phone or tablet, then signs off with a digital signature. The advantage is that records are stored automatically, can't be lost or damaged, and can be retrieved instantly during an inspection.

Do I need to redo inductions when site conditions change?

Yes. If significant new hazards appear, work phases change, or new safety procedures are introduced, you should run a refresher induction covering what's changed. On longer projects, a brief refresher every 3-6 months is good practice.

Site induction template free

The Site Book includes digital site inductions free on your first project — not a blank template, but a fully set up induction with sign-off capability. Your first project is completely free, no credit card required.

What records do I need to keep for site inductions?

You need a written record showing the person's name, the date, what was covered, and their signature confirming they understood. Without this record, you have no evidence the induction took place — and in the eyes of the HSE, if it's not recorded, it didn't happen. Digital records with timestamped signatures are accepted.
