Use the free RIDDOR checker

Available on all plans

The RIDDOR checker asks a few questions about what happened and shows whether it must be reported to HSE, who reports it and by when. It's free and you don't need an account. You can also find it on the free tools page.

Check an incident

  1. Open the RIDDOR checker from the free tools page

  2. Answer What happened?

  3. Answer the questions that follow

Only the questions that apply to your answers appear. Changing an earlier answer clears the ones after it.

  4. Read the result: Reportable under RIDDOR, Not reportable under RIDDOR, but record it, Not reportable under RIDDOR or Get advice before you decide

Each line links to its regulation on legislation.gov.uk or to HSE's guidance. Click Start again to clear your answers.
