Permits to work
A permit to work is a formal written record that controls a piece of potentially hazardous work: what is to be done, where and when, the precautions, and who authorised it. HSE describes how permit-to-work systems work in its guidance HSG250. A permit supports a safe system of work. It does not make the work safe by itself.

Issue permits to work on Pro
On Pro and above, you issue permits to work from the project. There are six permit types: hot works, working at height, confined space, electrical isolation, excavation and general. Each permit records the work, where it is, the precautions, a start and end time, and who issued and received it. Account owners and admins can revoke a permit early, and every permit stays in the project’s history.

On Business and Site Control, the Plant & Equipment register keeps one list of your plant and equipment. You set the certificates and inspections each item needs, record checks and defects against it on the project, and can take an item out of use across every project. The register records your evidence and checks. It does not carry out thorough examinations or decide your inspection intervals.
